Privacy

I started to write a post about the ups and downs of living with someone, but as I started to write the back story, I realized that I was sharing a lot of information about my girlfriend that she might not want the world to know.  I then tried to remove anything that she might consider sensitive, but it left me with a very vague, watered-down version of a blog post.  Which I hate.  When I read someone else's blog, it's the details that make it interesting and bring the stories to life.

I don't want those details to be missing from my blog.

Clearly, this is something I need to think more about (and probably discuss with the girlfriend).  For those of you with significant others, how do you share what's going on in your life without violating your partner's privacy?

  1. Get permission.

Ask her to proofread everything before you post.

Fact based fiction. Change her or you or everything to be different.

A 45 year old female suffering neutropenic fever related to breast cancer with systemic lung abnormalities is very similar to most people as a 55 year old man with neutropenic fever having leukemia and abnormal lung x-rays.

The gist of the story is that they are already suffering but are surviving. The details make the story more interesting and more colorful but ultimately, the story is the same.

Hope that helps to a degree :)

  2. For what it's worth, I decided very early on that I would never use my blog to vent about my husband, since he doesn't read it and can't defend himself. If I mention him, it's something good. If I am frustrated, I keep it out of print. I feel like I owe him that much out of respect.

  3. Password protect. Blogging to a select group of people is similar to talking to a friend *shrug* You should be able to vent just as she should.
