Weekend Progress

Remember how my living room looked on Friday?

This is how it looks at the end of the weekend:

The after photo doesn't quite do it justice, as everything that is currently on the table is waiting for someone to pick it up and take it away.  There will be a lot of empty space once it's finally done.  Including space for games nights!

A few more before and afters:

The desk:

The bookshelf:

The light in the photos is terrible, but you get the idea.  I have gotten rid of a lot of clutter.  So far I think I've done a reasonable job of not getting rid of important things, with two notable exceptions.  First, I gave away some chargers that I thought were old and not in use anymore, but which turned out to be for my bike lights.  So I'll need to get a new charger before bike season next year*.  And second, I gave away a tea set to one of my friends, and a few hours later, she texted me to say "You didn't look in the teapot before you gave it to me, did you?"

Turns out I had stashed $130 in cash in it at some point in the past.  (Years and years ago, perhaps?)  I'm really glad I gave that one to a friend instead of putting it in the lobby of my building.

Anyone else decluttering right now?  How is it going?

*Also a new bike, as I had previously been using the ex-girlfriend's bike.  Sigh.

  1. I am apparently cluttering, as I'm looking seriously at a super cute camper trailer that would fill my carport.

This morning I couldn't find the rod that goes onto my bike to put it on the rack and I got really frustrated at how much crap I have, but everything in my garages (yes, I have essentially three garages for storage) are things that I have recently used. I have a lot going on with this house and my rental property and my garden and biking and such. If I were to declutter, I wouldn't be able to enjoy the hobbies I have. Or save money on doing repairs myself.

But I'm still frustrated that I can't find that bar and 1/2" wrench. I may need to put in a better system.

    1. Some people like having stuff, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I personally have no problem with having stuff that I use, but I hate having things that I am just storing. Hence the giant purge.

    2. Yeah, I move so often that I keep very few things that I don't actively use. I have very little stuff without a direct application. I don't like to have much stuff, but I also really don't like to pay somebody else to do something that I can do for myself if I have the right tool.

  3. Decluttering is going slowly and I haven't even gotten to the inside of the house yet.

    1. It's a long process! I've been working at it halfheartedly for months, so this weekend is kind of the culmination of that effort. But it takes time.

    1. Thanks! I hope I have more caches of money hidden around my apartment...although I sadly haven't found any yet.
